i visited the renwick in august 2010, completely looking forward to seeing the national collection of american craft. i have to say, i was disappointed to see the "lean" inventory of american craft, as well as, the lack of current craft. considering the abundance of american craft in circuit in private galleries, and craft shows around america, i was shocked to not see it represented. of all the smithsonian museums, this one seemed left behind. not sure if it is lack of funding?, as clinton"s administration seemed to fill the sculpture gardens...and with the smithsonian craft show as the premiere craft show in the USA, acquisitions would seem to be in order.
For the first time, the Smithsonian is publishing its unparalleled Lincoln collection.
